Рядом авторов была выявлена зависимость типа нарушения высших психических функций от локализации очага поражения (Г.С. Бурд, А. Б. Гехт, А. Н. Боголепова, 1995; Л. И. Краснощекова с соавт., 2001). Были отмечены продепрессивные свойства базальных ганглиевстриатума и нигростриальной дофаминергической системы (Э.Б. Арушанян, Е. В. Щетинин, 1994), гиппокампа (Э.Б. Арушанян, Э. В. Бейер, 2001).
